Hey Fashionistas & Designers! Africa Fashion Week London is coming to Nigeria
After three successful editions of the Africa Fashion Week in London, the organisers are bringing the fashion train to Nigeria to give talented Nigerian designers an opportunity to showcase their creativity to a global audience.
According to Ronke Ademiluyi, the founder of AFW London – organisers of AFW Nigeria, AFW Nigeria believes in emerging talents and the core aim is providing visibility platforms for new talents, who would otherwise not have the means to gather national attention and awareness of their own.
Designers who believe their work has what it takes to compete in the market place and hope to grab a fair share of international market will be exhibiting designs at AFW Nigeria.
Princess Abah Folawiyo of Labanella Creations will be for the first time after many years going on the runway again for Africa Fashion Week Nigeria. The Princess and Fashion are inseparable. Her creative concepts flow in a vision like manner that she finds easy to interpret perfectly. The quality of her breathtaking and innovative designs, are enough to fetch her, the crown of queen of fashion designs. Her knowledge of fabrics combinations, colors, cutting and sewing were not acquired in any classroom, they were naturally inborn.
In this interview, the doyen of Nigerian Fashion reveals why she supports Africa Fashion Week Nigeria. “It is a worthy cause, I mean Africa Fashion Week Nigeria. Many Nigerian fashion designers of excellent quality end up being mere roadside tailors and dressmakers because they lacked the platform that will give them maximum exposure. This is the first time that an organization will take up the task of providing this pedestal to help launch the careers of young people whom would have been lost in obscurity for lack of showcasing opportunities. I am pleased to have such a thing happening in my lifetime, to boost my own contributions to the fashion industry. When they called on me to help, I accepted to do the runway show for them to inspire the younger generations.”
Princess Abah’s show will be among the final shows to crown the event. The London Fashion school graduate hopes that she will motivate young Nigerian fashion designers, to tell them that they could still make it in the fashion industry even though the world is facing an economic meltdown with no jobs for the youth.
Notable personalities that will grace the event are Chief Folusho Alakija, Abba Folawiwo, Chief Molade Okoya, Senator Daisy Danjuma, Hon. Abike Dabiri and other notable personalities.
The AFWN which is being organised in collaboration with Abiola Okoya of Mibod Global Resources is produced by Sola Oyebade of Mahogany Productions and Toyin Lawani of Tiannah‘s styling academy.
