The Patriots Alliance, a Nigerian pressure group has condemned alleged moves by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to stall the screening of former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
The screening of Amaechi, scheduled for this week, has been divisive, with critics aiming to thwart his vetting on the grounds of a probe by the administration of Governor Nyesom Wike.
“We find it ridiculously callous that the only standing opposition political party in Nigeria, has now been reduced to a propagandist machinery, a far cry from that sane body which should keep the present Government in check with objective criticisms and productive alternatives,” said Solomon Okocha, spokesperson of the Patriots Alliance.
“The verbal assaults against the person of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, from the PDP and its co-travellers, have become unbearable, nauseating, embarrassing, and highly irritating,” the official added.
Okocha said Wike, rather than inundating the airwaves with alleged hate speech and antisocial disposition, should as a matter of public good approach a competent court of jurisdiction to lay to rest this issue of corruption allegations against Amaechi.
“This daily bickering via Pastor Jerry Needam, Livingstone Wechie, and their likes, is completely irresponsible and unbecoming of a party that parades about with the ‘democratic’ mantra.”
Okocha said as much as the organisation knew, Amaechi was not a convict or an ex convict, as there is no judgment from any court of competent jurisdiction to that effect.
“Therefore, anybody who is presently under the illusion that his or her slanderous opinion can deny him (Amaechi) of his full rights as a respected citizen of Nigeria, must shake such sick feelings off, or be prepared to live with the damaging emotional effects of such diabolical contrivance.”
