Afro pop star Davido is sure ready to conquer new territories with his music following the new deal with Sony Music.

The music partnership will see the Skelewu star put out two albums in what has been reported as a music publishing and distribution agreement. Both albums, expected to drop from this year, will be released and globally distributed by Sony Music.

The partnership deal was facilitated by Efe Ogbeni who works with Sony/ ATV, and he will serve as the executive producer for the singer’s next album expected to drop sometime in 2016. According to reports, while Sony handles distribution of the album globally, Davido retains ownership of the music as well as various performances.

Foremost entertainment lawyer Joel Katz was also reported as playing a role in helping the singer with legal assistance in the process of signing the deal.

Below is an excerpt of the official press release from Sony Music Entertainment upon signing the music star in January 2016: “Sony Music Entertainment have signed accomplished musician Davido to a groundbreaking global agreement. The deal was inked at the Sony Music offices in New York and will see the American-born Nigerian recording artist release his highly anticipated sophomore album later this year.

“This deal represents a step forward for Sony Music Entertainment as it grows its roots in Africa. Announcing its official presence in Lagos, Nigeria verifies Sony Music Entertainment’s decision to pursue new business via the introduction of on-the-ground operating entities in an expanded number of markets in the region. The timing of the decision is based on the convergence of a number of positive indicators in Africa’s economy and positive signs in the music industry. Davido is a shining example of this.”

The 23-year-old singer is the son of Nigerian billionaire industrialist Chief Deji Adeleke. Born in Atlanta, he relocated to Nigeria at 19 and dropped his debut album Omo Baba Olowo in 2012, a project that was warmly received and critically reviewed.
