Miss South Africa 2019 is Zozibini Tunzi. She became the 61st Miss South Africa on Women’s Day 9 August 2019 and was crowned with a brand new crown.
Zozibini Tunzi is a 25-year-old completing her BTech in PR. Her role models are her parents and Caster Semenya, whom she said she would love to meet. Zozibini is a hard-core Marvel fan, was a Game of Thrones addict and enjoys eating out.
Sixteen finalists started the evening with a shot at glory but that number soon became ten as the judges announced the top ten finalists.
Public choice winner
South Africa voted and her voice was heard. Chuma Matsaluka is the Public Choice winner and she #Dreamwalks her place into the #MissSA2019 Top 10.
Chuma was joined in the top ten by Zozibini Tunzi, Sasha-Lee Olivier, Kgothatso Dithebe, Daniella Wallace, Nompumelelo Maduna, Loren Leigh Jenneker, Eloise van der Westhuizen, Sibabalwe Gcilitshana and Errin Brits.
Miss South Africa top five
The ten hopefuls then had their number trimmed by half as the top five progressed to a round of judges’ questions.
“The time is now for women to take their place at the forefront of greatness.”
Miss South Africa
Only one of these gorgeous and intelligent #Dreamwalkers will wear the crown. Who has the grace and poise to represent South Africa on a global stage?
Zozibini, Sasha, Kgothatso, Eloise and Nompumelelo faced the judge’s questions before the final two were announced.
Sasha and Zozibini were the last two ladies left standing after the judges questions and faced the final question.
Zozibini did well in her answer but ran out of time before she could conclude her answer.
Sasha – “I would advise the president to tell people to embrace their story. And as I stand here, a survivor of sexual abuse, I want to say that today, together, we can take our power back.”
Zozibini – “I am firm believer in education, and I would advise that they push education. We might not be able to do much for elders, but we can do so much for children by starting them early.”
The final answer is very important but it is not the be-all and end-all of judging Miss South Africa.
