This follows a gas factory fire at Inter Corp Oil Limited in Nnewi, whichclaimed scores of lives, with at least 100 feared dead, and destroyed properties recently.
“The economic progress being witnessed in the area is one that everypatriotic Nigerian and the Federal Government wishes and supports for other towns in the country.
Therefore, it is unfortunate and grim gas fire accident should not be allowed to dampen the enthusiasm andentrepreneurial drive of the people towards industrialization and progress,” Abubakar said.
“I call on the state and local governments, business community, andentrepreneurs in the area to take the issue of industrial safety andaccident prevention and management seriously,” the chieftain of the AllProgressives Congress (APC) said.
He recalled that Nnewi in Anambra State had recently been growing as a busy and dynamic commercial and industrial enclave boosting the economy of the nation and providing employment for its teeming population.
Abubakar said the accident was more agonising because it came at a time when the victims like other Nigerians were looking forward to celebrating with their families and friends at the Yuletide and ‘Eid-el-Maulud celebrations.
He extended his heartfelt condolence to the families and relations of thevictims, the Anambra State government and people and Nigerians at large.
Abubakar also prays for the peaceful repose of the soul of the victims andexpressed the hope that such a gruesome accident would not happen again.
