This follows the activities of Boko Haram suicide bombers bent on carryingout deadly acts in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.Major General Lamidi Adeosun of the 7 Division said the terrorists intended to carry out massive and coordinated suicide mission through Asmari, Damboa check point, Ali Dawari, Molai Kura, Baderi, Jumari villages, all at the outskirts of Maiduguri.

He said seven suicide bombers were gunned down by troops, three escaped and one arrested.

“I believe they (our troops) have averted what would have been a major disaster if they (suicide bombers) had gained entrance into Maiduguri,”said Adeosun.

“One of them went to a nearby house and requested for water to perform ablution but instead prepared herself and came to a nearby mosque and blew off herself killing 1 person while 13 others injured.”

Adeosun said the female suicide bombers were aged between the 12 and 18.They reportedly tried to force themselves into Maiduguri with the intent to cause “mayhem, confusion and panic” but were intercepted by Nigerian Army on patrol.

It was reported three of suicide bombers detonated their devices, killing 25 persons and injuring 85 others.

Adeosun said the terrorists also in recent time laid ambush on troops in Mairari along Maiduguri Monguno and Firgi.

He lamented that they lost four soldiers in that attack.Adeosun said the insurgents’ capacity to attack had nonetheless beendegraded.

“That is why they were bent on attacking soft target and laying ambush.”
