How to let go of your ex

January 30, 2016 8:57 am

One can be completely stunned with sadness and a grave sense of loss. You should not be angry at yourself and you should not cry over the love you had towards your ex. At Makamba Online we have come up with amazing steps you can take to overcome this time in your life.

A heartbreak hurts inside more like physical pain. It’s a delicate pain that can stagnant your growth and hold you from moving forward with your life. The good news is that there are lots of things you can do to help yourself let go of your ex. It’s not easy but with desire you can control your feelings.

1. Accept that it’s over

Accept that the relationship is over and don’t even try to pick up the pieces because you would hurt yourself. Acceptance is the first step to moving on and getting over your ex, so it’s time for you to make that first step. Once you have accepted it, don’t dwell on it. Don’t over-think and over-analyse things. You cannot reverse or control what has been done. When it’s over it really should be over. There are far worse heartbreaks.

2. Feel free to cry

Don’t be afraid to face any negative emotions. It’s ok to cry and actually helps you to heal. It’s all part of the loss cycle and a natural part of your recovery process. It’s normal to grieve the loss of your relationship. You will be relieved to find this out, crying helps you relax. You will never be sad if you let your emotions out, you will be happier. However, the truth is that sadness is part of the natural recovery process.

3. Put it in the past

It is normal that you have invested so much time, money effort and tears to make the relationship work out only to lose it in just a moment. Of course it’s hard to let go! Nobody is prepared for a heartbreak, but it happens in our lives. If you dwell on it, you will add regrets to your life. You ought to respect and value yourself more than anyone and being clingy indicates that your self-value is way below the line.

4. Have more activities

Socialise with your friends. Not your ex’s friends! This will give you less time to think about your ex. Travelling with friends or family will help you feel your old self and it will help you gain confidence among people who love you the most. Don’t forget that you once lived without him/her so it won’t definitely ruin your life now that you are back to where you once were. You will realise that your life isn’t over because your previous lover is gone.

5. Make new memories

If you visited some places together in the past, you need to go to new places that you have never been before. Better yet, go to somewhere you went together but this time do it with your loved ones and friends. Eat foods you’ve never tasted before. Creating memories helps you forget the memories you share with your ex. When you have a heartbreak you think of all the good times you had. That’s what you should erase.

6. Avoid your ex

Your ex might still want to contact you even after breakup. If this happens, it will certainly make it harder for you to forget him. Be respectful but mindful of your needs.

7. Love again

Try not to close your heart to a new possibility of a love that is better, bolder, and greater than the previous one. If you think of the past that cannot be fixed you will get weak mentally and you will always be sad, rather smile and be hopeful. There is someone who is right for you, someone who will be thankful to have you, someone who will treasure and respect you more than anyone else.

8. Look into the future

The key to letting go of your ex is to change your focus from the past and what happened to the future and put your energy and attention into creating your new single life. Stop telling your sad story to everyone who will listen and start to talk about all the new things you want to achieve and have in your life. If you talk about your future plans you are positioning yourself for the good things that nature will provide you. You won’t move forward by retelling the past.

Letting go of your ex is never easy if you loved him/her deeply. He/she may always hold a place in your heart, however, you should be pain free and full of happy memories. Moving forward in the love circles is not easy, but you are your own doctor. Nobody will cry, accept, shift attention and look into the future for you. Embrace yourself and enjoy your life in this loving world.
